One of the very best historical novels. Pears really knows his 17th Century history and the details and dialogue ring true. This is a gripping murder mystery told from different and vastly conflicting perspectives. The final revelation is absolutely unexpected.

The life of a man and his tribe, their customs and their beliefs. Also the story of colonial governors and their power to subjugate the locals.Okonkwo is a tough man but you will end up feeling for him when things finally fall apart. A great read, compelling and thought provoking.
